King of the Yard: Intro and Characters

DAY 0

Monday

In the last few minutes the gym has quickly filled with young teenagers crowding around the ring that occupies the center of the room, most of them excited for what is about to start. Some of them nervously look at their mobile phones while others talk to each other trying to look confident.

Ten minutes after the time of the call, a young man who looks about 25 years old appears through one of the side doors, accompanied by a red-haired girl who looks about 20 years old and carries some folders. Both wear white clothes and climb into the ring with agility.

-Silence, silence, please - the young, blond guy requests with a big smile.

-Welcome everyone to the first edition of the Apolo contest, young fighters. You are the 24 applicants who have been accepted to fight for the Grand Prize: 600 dollars and a contract at the Apolo young model agency. My name is Alpha, and my partner is Omega. We are in charge of the tournament and we are here to help you throughout it. As we already explained to you by email, the tournament works like this: you are currently 24 applicants. You will face another randomly chosen boy and only one of the two will advance to the next round, 12 in total. Now my parter is going to explain you how the first round will work.

-In the first round -Omega says with a soft but firm voice- in order to stay in the tournament, you must defeat your opponent in a physical fight. As you know, there are hardly any limits: we don't want blood, eye attacks or broken bones or teeth. Everything else is allowed. If a fighter passes out, he is eliminated. If he gives up, he's eliminated. And if the other fighter pins him for 10 seconds, he is eliminated too. Is it clear?

Everyone nods. 

-Now please raise one hand or say “yes” when we say your name.

                           CHARACTERS

-ALEX. 17. He seems like a nice guy, but those who know him well know that the truth is very different. He knows how to manipulate people at will, and he feels no remorse in doing so. He still doesn't know what he wants to do when he graduates from high school. He hates when people pick on him because of his height. His main hobby is quite dark. He is a manipulative and cruel boy. Height: 5’32.

 Alex

-ALFONSO. 19. He is obsessed with social networks, especially with instagram and Tik Tok, where he is always uploading content. He is Spanish, and he plays tennis. He has an important secret that only his family knows: he is biopolar. Also a math genius. He lives alone with his mother, and he tries very hard to make her proud of him. He usually wears loose clothing. He is a smart and talented boy. Height: 5’9.

 Alfonso

-BEN. 19. He is half Canadian, and he has not lost his inner child. He wants to become a comic book artist. Lover of cats, manga and collectible figures. He works as a gardener and servant in the Blue Mansion, as he is the butler's grandson. His parents spend long periods abroad, so he has been raised by his grandfather. Sometimes he would like to inherit his grandfather's work. He hates ketchup and lies. He is an active and sincere boy. Height: 5’87.

 Ben

-BRIAN. 20. He has worked in the family store since he was thirteen years old. He has not yet dared to confess to his parents that he wants a different life, since his dream is to open a restaurant. His main hobbies are taking pictures of himself and riding a bicycle. He has never fallen in love, and he has had a slight limp in his right leg since he was a child.  He urgently wants to experience new things. He is a restless and non-conformist boy. Height: 6’23.

 Brian

-DANIEL. 17.  He speaks fluent English, French and Spanish. He's not very athletic, but he goes to the gym enough to keep fit. He has had a girlfriend since he turned 16. He is very insecure and a bit pessimistic, which makes it difficult for him to make important decisions. Afraid of heights. He wants to become a psychologist. He is an indecisive and nervous boy. Height: 5’74.

 Daniel

-DAVID. 17. He is Moroccan. He dropped out of school at the age of fourteen and has been working in his family's butcher shop ever since. He is a little cross-eyed in the right eye. One of his biggest dreams is to travel to Yellowstone. He usually loses things due to oversights. He draws very well, although he does it less and less. He normally wears sportswear, and  his arms are very strong compared to the rest of his body. Height: 5’64. 

David

-HANS. 17. He has been a wrestling fighter for half a year. At first he always lost, but after a few fights he started to win some matches. He is not particularly strong, but he knows how to move properly in the ring. He wants to collect the necessary money to buy a motorcycle. He is a bit of an exhibitionist, and loves to be the center of attention. He has a bad relationship with his older brother. He is an unpredictable and agile boy. Height: 5’8.

 Hans

-ISAAC. 20. Tall, tanned and muscular. He is a tough guy, but also a good person. He has been working in a gym for almost a year. In the last six months he has dated three different girls, since stable relationships are not for him. He has always been a heartthrob, something that has sometimes caused him problems. Although he finished high school, studies have never interested him much, because he prefers physical activity. He is a sporty and positive boy. Height: 6’23.

 Isaac

-JAIME. 17. Ballet dancer since the age of five. He is a shy boy who, however, has no problem making new friends. Sometimes it seems that he has a cold character, but when people get to know him better they discover that he is a good and kind boy. He has gotten a scholarship to train at one of the top three dance schools in the country. Sometimes he wishes he was taller. Gay, never had a boyfriend. He is a smart and careful boy. Height: 5’54.

Jaime

-JOSH. 20. He is an arrogant young man who believes that his money makes him superior to other people. He's repeating his last year of high school. Homophobic, sexist and racist, for him violence is the appropriate means to solve any problem. He trusts no one, and enjoys hurting others. He has always felt on top. His family is immensely rich, so it is not necessary for him to work. That's a poor people thing. Height: 6’06

 Josh

-KEVIN. 20. His great body stands out wherever he goes. He is very strong and athletic, and he is full of muscles. His legs look like two columns, and his arms are twice the size of a normal person's. He plays baseball, and spends hours in the gym. A year ago he started training a children's team in the area, and also works in a supermarket. However, he is also a peaceful boy. He is close to getting the money needed to buy a car. He is a popular and lucky boy. Height: 6’56

 Kevin

-MARIO. 18. Half Italian and half American. He is very handsome and he knows it, and he also has an enviable body, the result of genetics. In addition to that, he is a very intelligent and nice boy, who everyone likes. He is bisexual and many boys and girls are in love with him, although in his heart there is only room for one person: his ex-boyfriend, with whom he broke up three months ago. He misses him very much. He wants to become a scientist. He is an intelligent and affectionate boy. Height: 5’9.

-MARK. 19. He lived in a juvenile facility until he was 18 years old. Now he lives in a shared flat with two friends. He works as a waiter in a luxurious restaurant, and some nights he also works, secretly, as a stripper. He eats a lot, but stays fit. He is very handsome, but not as much as he thinks. Someday he would like to know who his parents are. He loves to play pranks. He is a hard-working and autonomous boy. Height: 5’83.

 Mark

-NATH. 19. A troublesome boy. He has already had several problems with authority, and he does not like people to impose rules on him. He frequently hangs around his neighborhood with his colleagues to make it clear that he is free to do whatever he wants. He is the king of street fights and foul play. The only thing that matters to him is being the alpha male, something that until now he has always achieved despite the fact that he does not have a particularly remarkable size.  Nath

-OMAR. 19. He is a country boy, and he is also Arab. He grew up surrounded by plantations and farm animals, which he is not ashamed of. He has no problem with city people, but he does have a problem with those typical arrogant city boys who think they are better than country people. -PEDRO. 18. He has just finished high school and in two months he will start studying at the university, although he still does not know what degree he will study. He is the eldest of five brothers and who on many occasions is in charge of taking care of the rest. He loves partying and playing video games, but he hides a secret hobby that he wouldn't reveal to anyone for all the money in the world. He is a nice and funny boy. Height: 5’57

 Pedro

-RICK.   20. Gay. He has half a million followers on Tik Tok. He usually paints his nails and wears makeup, not caring what people say about it. However, as he always explains when people ask him, he is not trans. In high school he was bullied for years for his effeminate personality, but now he is no longer afraid to be himself. A few weeks ago he began studying to be a hairdresser. He is a sarcastic and direct boy. Height: 5’9.

 Rick

-ROB. 19. He is an athlete. Regional champion in his age category, he is capable of running at incredible speed. When it comes to sports, he is a bit arrogant, but not when it comes to other issues. He studies Law at university, just like his father and grandfather did. He goes out with a new girl every month, since he gets tired of women quickly. It's claustrophobic. He loves photography. Height: 5’97.

 Rob

-SANTI. 18. A quiet boy. He has never liked being the center of attention. Crowds overwhelm him. He has never been very nice or friendly, although he is not stupid either, he simply prefers to go unnoticed. He has played basketball since he was a child. In a few weeks he will start working in the family business. He usually wears dark clothes. Until a few years ago he was short for his age, but at 16 he had a big growth spurt. He is a quiet and mysterious boy. Height: 6’29.

 Santi

-TOM. 20. Economy student. He works part-time in order to get the money he needs to start a small business with his girlfriend. When he has time he plays basketball with his friends. People often think that he is a bit childish and immature. For that reason, he is a bit obsessed with constantly proving himself so that people start taking him seriously. He is tall and has curly hair. It has quite an athletic leather. He is a calm and friendly boy. Height: 6’16

-TONI. 18. He is a rich and handsome boy, blond and with blue eyes. Many people might think that he is self-centered, but he really is a good boy who always cares about others, although sometimes he is a bit braggart. He is the only nephew of the “New Dawn” company founder and owner, who died in the same traffic accident as Toni's mother and other relatives. Although he wants to go to college, he also has dreams of becoming an actor. Height: 5’61.

 Toni

-URI. 17.  Unlucky in love. He always falls for cute guys, but then they're always straight, childish, or assholes. He is very insecure, always looking for other people's approval. He wants to study biology at the university, although he knows that he will probably not even get the necessary file for it. His mother is in jail for fraud crimes. He has two dogs and a hamster, he loves animals. He is an insecure and naive boy. Height: 5’5.

 Uri

-XAVI. 18. He has two little siblings, a brother and a sister. He is going to start studying to become a nurse, and he is looking for a job that allows him to pay for his residency. He never gets angry, he is very patient with people. He has the ability to be able to sleep 14 hours straight without waking up, and he is a teetotaler. For some reason he didn't speak until he was almost three years old, so everyone thought he was mute. He is a spontaneous and talkative boy.  Height: 5’74
